Mamie Ming Yan Ko
One of the first two Chinese Women to be received into Full Connection.
Mamie Ming Yan Ko was born November 25 in Hong Kong. “In 1975, when I had almost finished my bachelor’s degree, I started wondering whether I should be in the ordained ministry as a pastor of a local church. There were not too many women in ministry. I entered seminary in September 1976 and began my journey into the ordained ministry. I found myself being attracted to the ministries of the church, especially to preach.” In 1982 she was received into full connection in the California-Pacific Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.
“My ministry so far has been exciting, challenging, miraculous, and wonderful.” Along with Mochi Lam in the California-Nevada Conference, Mamie Ko is one of the first two Chinese women to be received into full connection in the UMC.
