SUMMARY:Boehm's Chapel Annual Vespers Service
DESCRIPTION:Join us at UM Heritage Landmark Boehm’s Chapel on Dec. 1 at 3:00 pm as Byerland Mennonite Church members will lead us in our annual Vespers Service.  Martin Boehm was a member of Byerland Mennonite Church before he was excommunicated in 1775 for his radical Methodist views.  But in 2016\, in a service with Bishops of the Mennonite and United Methodist Churches\, Martin Boehm was reinstated as a Mennonite Bishop emeritus. \nWe are blessed to have members of Byerland Mennonite involved with the United Methodists in the leadership of the Chapel Society. Advent is a wonderful time to come worship God in this beautiful historic place!  The Chapel is located at 13 West Boehm’s Road\, Willow Street\, PA 17584.

SUMMARY:The Fifteenth Oxford Institute
DESCRIPTION:Theme: The World is My Parish: Glad Tidings of Salvation in an Age of Crisis\nThe current age is marked by a host of interconnected global crises. These include widening economic inequity\, systemic racism\, the collapse of earth systems\, the broad yet unequal impact of climate destabilization\, political corruption\, misogyny\, discrimination against LGBTQ persons\, and related forms of social violence\, psychological distress\, and civic instability. Wesleyan and Methodist communities have often drawn impetus and insight for addressing such issues from their core inherited convictions about the nature of salvation and holiness. Encouraged by this precedent\, the 15th Oxford Institute of Methodist Theological Studies will take up the work of public theological\, biblical\, historical\, moral\, and pastoral reflection on matters of sin and salvation\, attentive to the distinctive resources of Wesleyan-Methodist traditions\, for the sake of the threatened world God so loves.

SUMMARY:David Worthington presents "Methodism Comes to America: The Bristol Connection"
DESCRIPTION:David Worthington is the Director of Global Relationships of John Wesley’s New Room in Bristol\, England.  He will be giving a talk during Drew Theological School’s chapel service on February 29\, 2024 at noon and again will be delivering a lecture in the same location at 6pm that evening. \nWorthington will focus on John’s arrival in Bristol in 1739 and his subsequent establishment of the template for the Methodist movement in the city that was then taken across England before being brought over to America by Francis Asbury and Thomas Coke. There will be a PowerPoint presentation to accompany the talk and Q&A with the audience after the talk if there is time. \nWorthington’s presentation will seek to be educational and informative\, but it will also have elements of humor and engagement with the audience and will not be too “academic” or “dry.” The speaker wants to encourage those who attend to reflect on how their education continues the Methodist tradition established by John and Charles Wesley in the 18th century.
