Purpose

To provide seed money to support research projects related to LGBTQ+ Methodist history.  The grant money is not to be used for equipment, publications costs, or researcher’s salary.

Award

A grant maximum of $1,000 will be available at the discretion of the committee of judges and in accordance with available funding each year.

How candidates are chosen: 

Selection is made by a committee consisting of two or three persons from General Commission on Archives and History.

How to apply

The candidate must submit an application which includes the following:

  • A vita or resume
  • A detailed description of the project
  • A timetable for the project, including the expected date of completion
  • A detailed budget narrative
  • The candidate must submit two letters of recommendation from persons who can provide evidence of his/her/their scholarly ability

Awarding Grant:  

Submitted proposals should be postmarked no later than July 31. Grant recipients will be announced by fall of that year. A copy of the final product will be deposited with the General Commission on Archives and History of The United Methodist Church.

GCAH is closed for research services.
The General Commission on Archives and History is closed for research services until the end of 2025. All physical and digital donations, unless previously agreed upon, ended on June 1. All research requests and visits ceased on July 1. This closure is to facilitate an inventory of GCAH Collections. It is anticipated that Research Services will resume in 2026.
