David Worthington presents “Methodism Comes to America: The Bristol Connection”

February 29, 2024 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

David Worthington is the Director of Global Relationships of John Wesley’s New Room in Bristol, England.  He will be giving a talk during Drew Theological School’s chapel service on February 29, 2024 at noon and again will be delivering a lecture in the same location at 6pm that evening.

Worthington will focus on John’s arrival in Bristol in 1739 and his subsequent establishment of the template for the Methodist movement in the city that was then taken across England before being brought over to America by Francis Asbury and Thomas Coke. There will be a PowerPoint presentation to accompany the talk and Q&A with the audience after the talk if there is time.

Worthington’s presentation will seek to be educational and informative, but it will also have elements of humor and engagement with the audience and will not be too “academic” or “dry.” The speaker wants to encourage those who attend to reflect on how their education continues the Methodist tradition established by John and Charles Wesley in the 18th century.
